The Week That Is,

I get to exercise my right to vote today. That offered to every citizen of the country-universal adult franchise. secret ballot. I strongly consider it my duty to take part in the choosing of the representatives of Government. My first State Assembly Election vote goes to Lok Paritran- a political party floated by ex-IITans, comprising educated young candidates. They aren’t just the inspired-by Yuva or RDB movies type but are men that I am sure who definitely want to make a difference atleast in terms of offering an alternative choice to the people and getting more people to participate in the electing process. I know they have no chance of coming Anywhere close to winning but I can say that just about every other person I know, in my age group is going to vote for them or atleast Wants to and have taken the trouble to spread the word about their existence and intentions. Not cause I trust them to win and make big changes- but because I feel that they should atleast get a significant vote margin so as to encourage future efforts on the part of educated young individuals who may someday strive for good governance and actually help to contribute productively to our state/country-India.

Also my bro’s returning home after more than a year in the UK where he was studying and working. Big preparations on for his upcoming wedding and things are happening pretty fast. Going to be busy with that.

On Sunday, I leave on a European holiday with 3 other friends-on which I have mixed feelings of fear, excitement and anticipation. The travel arrangements for that have actually just begun and it’s going to be pretty tight getting everything in place by then.

Memoirs of Loyola

(Kinda long do bear. First thought of splitting it into 2 seperate posts, but what the hell.)
Life in Loyola is officially Done-over. Well almost-considering impending results sometime next month. And it was an awesome, amazing, brilliant unforgettable 3 years. My final semester exams went off ok-with the exception of PFM-for which I am still praying Big Time!! But for the most part –it’s OVER-for good (fingers crossed) , hopefully I should even pass with a whole lot of luck. And looking back, I can see that there are plenty of reasons to be glad on why I chose to study there for UG and do my BA(Economics) at that.. much to my regret then...but definitely not anymore. For one thing its the most chilled-out place to be in cause i doubt any other college anywhere would have given us half as much freedom or allowed us to freak out as much as we did.. and its been a rollacoster 3 yrs with plenty up ups and few downs..

Memories in Loyola run pretty deep. There’s just So much tht I can go on and on about. Wether it was sitting at Quench for endless hours (definitely spent Much longer there than @ class-well luckily our profs were pretty lazy too) throughout first year or infinite hours spent rating the girls on DC’s Party Whirl page (pathetic yes-but then again Loyola guys Are pretty deprived-blame our college) in final year while some geniouses from our class actually did slightly more productive things like work on crosswords or sudoku. Then there the childish scribbling on tables, the playing around with chewing gums, letting air out of car tyres and the stupid games we played and the most unthinkable of questions we would ask each other. It was a through experince on the whole with pretty much every aspect of college life put into it,we did it all- giving/getting proxys, slipping out after attendance, getting just about every guy in class to Hate us, tormenting the profs, coming close to getting suspended and ya having arrears too…Ragging day-special mention, although that happened with the self finance guys.

I guess every college has its own collection of character profs and we were no less fortunate to have some of the craziest. J for one hated us, from day 1 when we mistook him for an office staff on the first day he came for staff assessment, not knowing he was a senior prof in our own dept-back after a long break. He’s made it his saddistic pleasure to make our lives miserable since and today the fear of us passing that one paper remains. And ya the Father whose trip we took so much that he went and complained to the principal and we probably made Dept, if not college history with that fiasco-causing so much trouble and having to apologise to him. We sincerely took every effort to increase our marks to whatever max we could only After the papers were in hand corrected. This was made easier with the exceptionally few professors who loved us-like A who even though individually ragged us in class in a friendly way-was atleast nice enough to compensate by giving us good marks, There were some mean profs like R who actualy expected us to Learn and stuff but on the whole the college staff is pretty managable and at the end of the day we almost always had our way. We even had a few gay profs like JC who made life at Loyola pretty scary espicially when he took us on trips. Thankfully I skipped the Kodai trip.

Our class was probably the most diverse with 120 or something students when it started out which eventually dropped to about 80-90 in 3rd year and we had students from all over India, even one from Mauritious. We had all sort of people from religious brothers to the large mal gang-symbolic for their unity amongst themselves and they were all basically good though we have many a time had clashes or differences of opinion-guess politics exists everywhere. Never anything too serious though worth holding a grudge over. And man what entertainment we got from some of our classmates when they would choose the most inappropriate time to say the dumbest of things –giving us all many laughs over the years. We. like every student everywhere desperately grabbed every opportunity to escape class seeking ODs-a rarity in being effectively passed. We payed attendance fines just about every sem always exceeding minimum allowed bunking days limit.Even once tried to do a short skit for Ovations-our coll culturals jus for this purpose of OD. Another irritating thing was having to walk long distances between classes in our huge campus, this thankfully stopped by 3rd year though.

Another interesting trip was to Y’s farm where we(me and my friends) the organising committee messed up big time but still managed to pull it off, care of some last minute quick thinking. The Pondy trip with prof JC was one considerably successful outing with probably the most turnout that ever happened throughout college.2nd year had one pain in the form of Outreach-would have been a satisfying rewarding experience but for the fact that we did very little work and instead jus wasted time once a week to go give attendance and come. Study wise ya we had the dreadful seminars..those assignments.. last minute xroxing of notes on the previous day to the exam, copying off projects due, etc. We even had an Internship programme for about a month in the final sem-which I did with StanChart.

For me personaly Loyola has given me a lot of good and bad, taught me so much made me a …well, if not better atleast not a worse person-except for the fact that we have all definitely got a lot lazier and I for one am very minutely better prepared or planned for my onward future. I do have a Lot to remember though- at the foremost the invaluble friends I have gained of different types. Among the misfortune-probably the loss of 2 cell fones..well my own carelessness anyway. And ya both bad and good came out of the Palio Crash-lol -> I got my Accent after that.

I am not a rowdy or anything but I have had my share of fights @ Loyola. Pintu for one-though we were friends like soon after… AH well that goes back long back-satisfied a long denied pleasure of slapping him. Hard. Irrelavant that I got hit too, but then again who doesn’t in fights. Right? And ya while at Loyola I got to do a whole lot of things outside Loyola and use the Loyola name much to my pride. And then ya all those AH incidents I can only laugh about.

Eco dept was cool in one thing. We got a couple of star hotel dinners out of the dept..for helping sponser the annual national symps. Those were the one nights in a year we could lay back and chill with profs some guys even drinking with them.

For the 8 of us our gang it was pretty close knit and we stuck together for the most part often extending to a few others but generally keeping a profile troublesome enough to be ignored or disliked by the rest. Even though our many party and outside trip plans or even simple dinner plans Rarely happened and even though we didn’t quite get to do Everything we probably should have or been crazy enough like we could have- we definitely had a fun time on the whole and will always treasure all our time spent here –the stepping stone of our future. From here we part in different directions-hoping for the best for everyone and someday I am sure we are going to be big enough to look back and be proud of the fact that we grew up here-3 years of our life, cherishing everything that came out of it-the good.the bad.the ugly. In Loyola spirit I truly hope that God-“Let’s all our lights shine”.hoping for the best and wishing everyone luck-thanks and sorry for anything I might have said offensive-unintentional.Thanks. Take Care. Good Luck!!

(P.S.-Names not disclosed for personal reasons-but kinda obvious to those who know i am sure.)
